The Bond Between Zao and Palau — Toward a New Era of Regional Exchange
太平洋に浮かぶ美しい島国パラオ。
実は宮城県蔵王町とパラオには、戦後から続く深い歴史的なつながりがあります。
Palau, the beautiful island nation in the Pacific Ocean, shares a deep historical connection with Zao Town in Miyagi Prefecture, a relationship that has continued since the postwar era.
近年では、日本旅行業協会（JATA）がパラオへの送客拡大施策を発表するなど、パラオは改めて注目を集めています。
In recent years, Palau has once again attracted attention, with organizations such as JATA promoting travel and exchange programs between Japan and Palau.
「北のパラオ」と呼ばれた蔵王
Zao — Known as the “Northern Palau”
戦後、多くの日本人がパラオから引き揚げることとなりました。
その中で、蔵王町北原尾地区にはパラオからの引揚者たちが入植し、新たな生活を切り拓いていきました。
厳しい自然環境の中で協力しながら開拓を進めた歴史は、現在も「北のパラオ」として語り継がれています。
After World War II, many Japanese citizens returned from Palau. Some of those repatriates settled in the Kitaharao area of Zao Town and began building new lives. Their pioneering efforts under challenging conditions are still remembered today as the story of “Northern Palau.”

これは宿泊施設単体ではなく、地域全体がホスピタリティを形成する仕組みとして評価されたものです。
This recognition was awarded not to a single accommodation facility, but to an entire community functioning collectively as a hospitality ecosystem.
パラオとの縁が示す未来
The Future Suggested by the Connection with Palau
蔵王とパラオの歴史は、戦争という悲しい出来事を背景にしながらも、人々の助け合いと交流によって新しい地域づくりへと発展してきました。
While the relationship between Zao and Palau originated from difficult historical circumstances, it evolved into a story of cooperation, resilience, and community-building.
私たちが進める蔵王福祉の森構想、アルベルゴ・ディフーゾ、関係人口創出、移住定住促進、地域医療連携、農福連携などの取り組みも、その本質は同じです。
