長崎県松浦市の「土谷棚田」を紹介した報道を拝見しました。
そこには、代々受け継がれてきた棚田を守ろうとする家族の姿がありました。
「自分たちの田んぼを離したくない」
12歳の少年の言葉は、多くの人の心を動かしたのではないでしょうか。
We recently watched a report featuring Doya Terraced Rice Fields in Matsuura City, Nagasaki Prefecture.
The story portrayed families who have continued to protect and cultivate these terraced fields across generations.
“I don’t want to let go of our family’s rice fields.”
The words of a 12-year-old boy touched the hearts of many people.
棚田は単なる農地ではありません。
そこには先人たちが築き上げてきた知恵があり、地域の歴史があり、家族の思い出があり、そして日本人が大切にしてきた原風景があります。
しかし現在、日本全国の棚田は高齢化や後継者不足によって維持が難しくなっています。
Terraced rice fields are more than farmland.
They embody generations of wisdom, local history, family memories, and the beautiful landscapes that have long defined rural Japan.
Today, however, many terraced fields across Japan face serious challenges due to aging populations and a shortage of successors.
ガイアファームの棚田も、もともとは維持が困難になっていた棚田でした。
私たちは農家の家族ではありません。
代々受け継がれた農家の血筋でもありません。
しかし、この風景を未来へ残したいという思いは同じでした。
だからこそガイアグループは、その棚田の維持と運営を引き受けることを決断しました。
The terraced fields managed by GAIA Farm were also facing the risk of abandonment.
We are not a farming family.
Nor are we descendants of generations of rice farmers.
Yet we shared the same desire—to preserve this landscape for future generations.
That is why the GAIA Group decided to take responsibility for maintaining and operating these rice terraces.

現在、ガイアファームの棚田では稲が順調に生育しています。
田んぼの中には、
オタマジャクシ、
カエル、
ヤゴ、
マツモムシ、
様々な水生昆虫たちが暮らしています。
そこには多様な命が育まれています。
At GAIA Farm, this year’s rice crop is growing steadily.
The paddies are home to tadpoles, frogs, dragonfly nymphs, water bugs, and many other aquatic creatures.
These rice fields support a rich ecosystem filled with diverse forms of life.
棚田は米を作る場所であると同時に、
