According to Expedia Group’s “Unpack ’26 Summer” travel trend report, introduced by Travel Voice, interest in domestic travel is increasing around the world. Social-media posts related to domestic summer travel rose by 77% year on year.
In Japan, hotel searches are growing not only in major cities but also in hot-spring destinations, nature-rich regions, and areas near urban centers. This reflects growing demand for travel experiences rooted in nature, food, culture, wellness, and local character.
At the same time, travelers are becoming more diverse in their choices. Some seek the excitement of major global events, while others prefer quieter destinations that offer comfort, value, and a more relaxed pace.
